Agricultural Institute of Canada Foundation Announces McRorie Scholarship Recipients

Deserving students have been awarded the 2003 Douglas McRorie Memorial Scholarship. The scholarships are presented annually by the Agricultural Institute of Canada Foundation (AICF) and are awarded to post graduate students studying agricultural business, economics, finance or trade. Receiving scholarships this year are:
Henry An, from Concord, ON is enrolled at the University of Guelph. Henry's research will focus on the micro economic impact of dollarization on the potato-farming industry in Ecuador.
Andrea Marie Brocklebank, from Saskatoon SK is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan studying supply chain coordination in the beef industry, and the production of branded beef products.
Aicha Coulibaly, from Quebec City QC, is enrolled at Laval University studying the analysis of price transmission mechanisms between American and Canadian Markets of agricultural products, effects of exchange rate and market structure.
Mark Ferguson, from Edgeley, SK is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan studying the economics of traceability and food safety systems.
Quentin Hauta, from Dinsmore SK is enrolled at the University of Alberta studying the relationship between the beef industry and greenhouse gas emissions.
Simon Jette-Nantel, from St. Esprit, QC is enrolled at McGill University. His research will focus on climate change and implementing the Kyoto Accord and the related transaction costs of implementing carbon sinks.
Francine Morley, from Stettler, AB, is enrolled at the University of Guelph. Francine's major project will focus on succession planning.
"AICF is proud to recognize these outstanding students," said Brenda Machin, PAg, chair of the AICF Education Committee that administers the program. "These students are tackling some of the tough issues that are emerging in the agri-food sector. I'm confident that these students will contribute to continued innovation and leadership in the agricultural sector."
The scholarships were created in 1990 in honour of AICF past-president and agri-finance leader, Doug McRorie, PAg FAIC. Doug served as the vice-president of agriculture for the Royal Bank and was a well-respected agricultural leader in Canada. Through 2005, the AICF will offer six annual scholarships of $1500 each to post-graduate students majoring in agricultural business, economics, finance or trade. The scholarship is made available through the generosity of the RBC Foundation.
Winners were selected based on their academic achievement, areas of study, leadership and career interests.

The application deadline will be in the fall of 2004.
