AIC Foundation Awards McRorie Memorial Scholarships

Six deserving students have been awarded the 2001 Douglas McRorie Memorial Scholarship. The scholarships are presented annually by the Agricultural Institute of Canada Foundation (AICF) and are awarded to post graduate students studying agricultural business, economics, finance or trade. Receiving the scholarships are:

Cody Cunningham, Saskatoon, SK, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan

Jonathon Driedger, Grunthal, MB, enrolled at the University of Manitoba

Jason Grant, Brampton, ON, enrolled at the University of Guelph

Joffre Hotz, Edmonton, AB, enrolled at the University of Alberta

Elspeth White, Edmonton, AB, enrolled at the University of Alberta
"AICF is proud to recognize these outstanding students," said Brenda Machin, PAg, Chair of the AICF Education Committee that administers the program. "Our future is in our youth, and these students will contribute to continued innovation and leadership in the agricultural sector."
The scholarships were created in 1990 in honour of AICF past-president and agri-finance leader, Doug McRorie, PAg FAIC. Doug served as the vice-president of agriculture for the Royal Bank and was a well-respected agricultural leader in Canada. Through 2005, the AICF will offer six annual scholarships of $1500 each to post-graduate students majoring in agricultural business, economics, finance or trade. The scholarships are made available through the generosity of the RBC Foundation.
Winners were selected based on their academic achievement, areas of study, leadership and career interests.
The 2002 application package will soon be available on the AICF web page at www.aic.ca/about/foundation_initiatives.cfm.The application deadline is September 30, 2002.
Incorporated in 1988 to enhance the image of agriculture in the eyes of the public, the Foundation invests its resources to support an understanding of the agricultural industry through the enhancement of professional and scientific leadership.
