AIC Partnership Project Proposals

In many cases, proposals to the AIC International Agricultural Development Program come from existing connections between AIC Member Organizations and Associations and professional or scientific organizations in developing countries. There is an established relationship, the partner organizations already have some experience in advancing a common project concept, and have sufficient shared knowledge to prepare a joint proposal. Whether the partnership concept is initiated in Canada or overseas, preparing the project proposal is a cooperative effort between the two partners.

Most of the AIC partnership projects are supported through the International Twinning Partnership Program (ITPP). Common to all partnerships within the ITPP is a strengthening of the capacity of the organizations so that they may better plan, develop and manage sustainable programs that respond to community needs and/or national development priorities. The ITPP promotes technological and scientific innovations in agricultural practices that are environmentally viable and sustainable, and develops increased awareness and understanding of international development among AIC Members. The ITPP is funded through the Partnership Branch of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Go to the ITPP for more information on the current program and projects.

Who Can Apply?

AIC supports partnerships between AIC Member Organizations and Associations and overseas partner professional or scientific organizations.

The ITPP does not involve partnerships with overseas universities, research centres, cooperatives, or other non-agricultural-specific organizations. There are other Canadian organizations with international programs that are better suited for such affiliations.

Both Canadian and international partners participate in the ITPP on a voluntary basis. Time, expertise, facilities and various other contributions are provided to projects as "in-kind" contributions by the partner organizations.

Involvement in the ITPP is one of the benefits of membership in AIC. All Canadian ITPP participants must be members of AIC.
