Key Issues

Food Safety

Ensuring a safe food supply is of critical importance to researchers, producers, wholesales, retailers, governments and consumers. All stakeholders in the system value ways and means of maintaining our high standards and increasing the safety of the food we produce for Canadians and for export around the world.

This page will link to documents, issue papers, websites and information pertaining to food safety policy.

Proposed CFIA Enforcement Act

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is proposing to consolidate, modernize and enhance its inspection and enforcement authorities for food, agricultural and aquatic commodities (meat, fish, agricultural products), agricultural inputs (seed, feed and fertilizer), animals and plants, in order to provide a more consistent and comprehensive approach to the CFIA’s inspection and enforcement and compliance activities

Learn more about the Act and its implications at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/reg/lege.shtml With the election call, this legislation dies on the order paper.
