Ag-West Bio is Saskatchewan’s bioscience industry association and catalyst to move research to market and grow biobusiness in the province. We work with and assist our members to commercialize in the areas of sustainable crop production, health, environment, bioproducts and value-added food processing. Our commercialization fund assists entrepreneurs, early-stage companies, and helps established companies expand their businesses. Ag-West Bio is looking for a Director of Investment & Commercialization, who can take it to the next level!

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Investment & Commercialization leads investment and commercialization activities and services including the management of Ag-West Bio’s technology commercialization investment fund and services designed to advance promising start-up businesses toward successful commercialization. The Director develops strategic approaches to proactive outreach and finds and guides promising businesses toward investment readiness. This position also collaborates with stakeholders and develops multi-stakeholder programs and activities to grow an effective investment and commercialization ecosystem in Saskatchewan.

Key responsibilities:

· Manages the Ag-West Bio investment portfolio and the entire investment life cycle, including sourcing investee targets, due-diligence review, investment closing, investee monitoring, investment exits, and budgeting to ensure a healthy fund balance.

· Proactively builds collaborative stakeholder funding relationships to promote start-up business growth and increase the leveraging effectiveness of Ag-West Bio’s investment fund and commercialization services.

· Develops and manages effective business advancement and support services, website tools, workshops, training, mentorship, and activities to increase the advisory capacity of start-ups.

· Works with other Ag-West Bio management to develop and manage strategy and initiatives to increase the activity and size of the Ag-West Bio investment fund and provides exceptional membership commercialization services.

As the ideal candidate for the job, you have a post-secondary degree, preferably in agricultural economics, finance, or business OR an agricultural sciences degree complemented with practical experience in building an ag-based and at least four years’ experience in investment, lending, finance, portfolio, and program management.

You bring a demonstrated track-record in developing and leading business or commercialization related programs and services and a passion for assisting and accelerating promising start-ups toward business success. You are described as a team-player, entrepreneurial, self-motivated, proactive, and a responsible manager who is able to assess risk and develop opportunities. With well-developed verbal and written communication skills, you are able to help start-up business leaders do the same.
