What we’re looking for…

The Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) Business and Client Development team is highly integrated in the organization’s research and innovation programs, providing support in the areas of business development, contracts, intellectual property management and client relationship management.

Reporting to the Director, Business and Client Development, this position identifies and builds relationships and business opportunities to maximize the full breadth of Vineland’s Genomics and Trait Development Services and wider research, development and evaluation capabilities to the sector.  Vineland’s Genomics Services includes expertise and proprietary technology in reverse genetics as an approach to uncover new traits in crop plants, in addition to an expanded range of genomics and biochemistry services.  Vineland strives to provide breeders and other agricultural related plant and seed providers with fast, reliable and cost-effective access to advanced and more capable genetic material.

The Senior Business Development Advisor, Genomics Services provides business leadership to, and collaborates with, Vineland’s research and innovation program leaders and teams to support and enhance their capacity to attract and retain clients and collaborators. The position is accountable for managing client relationships and securing investment at a level appropriate to support Vineland’s core innovation programs.

What you’ll do…

·     Drive top-line external investment into Vineland with a focus on acquiring new accounts, while growing existing clients.

·     Actively participate in regular pipeline reviews, ensuring all Client Relationship Management (CRM) records are up-to-date and critical success factors are identified for key opportunities while maintaining a key account management framework.

·     Ensure client needs are reflected during project/proposal development while supporting planning and development of the budgeting process and reporting.

·     Gather and analyze business intelligence, metrics, and trends to determine market opportunities and strategies to develop new and/or enhance service offerings to maintain a competitive advantage.

What we need from you…

·     Graduate degree, or equivalent, in Business, Genomics, Biology, Agriculture/Plant Science or Engineering.

·     Five (5)+ years’ experience working in a business development role.

·     Significant experience working in multidisciplinary teams.

·     Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

·     Business acumen and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build strong relationships locally, nationally, and internationally.

·     Ability to merge science/engineering with business and leverage networks to advance relationships with government and/or industry partners.

·     Substantial knowledge of the horticulture and Canadian innovation system in addition to customized genomic solutions.
